JOB TITLE: Strategic Network Cost-Benefits Modeller

  RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Manager – Network Modelling & Optimisation    

MAIN LOCATION: Jordan, Amman

WORKING HOURS: Flexible, with the ability to accommodate collaboration  across Australian time zones

Objective:

 The Strategic Network Cost-Benefits Modeller plays a critical role in developing, maintaining, and enhancing finance and operational models used for network planning, budgeting, and financial forecasting.

This position requires a strong analytical mindset, proficiency in data analysis tools, and a deep understanding of network infrastructure and operations.

The Network Cost Modeller will collaborate with various stakeholders to provide insights that drive strategic decision-making and optimise network investment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with network planning, operations, engineering, and finance teams to gather relevant cost data. Undertake analysis of large data sets to identify critical cost and operational inputs for the execution of network optimisation modelling tasks. Where required, develop bespoke financial and operational models to establish new reference data points.
  • Structure network scenarios and model these at a high level to prioritise these to a shortlist of feasible solutions.
  • Document the logical supply chain elements of the scenario to enable a rigorous and logical network to be built in network modelling tools, such that it can be articulated/ presented to Network Operations and broader stakeholders across the Enterprise.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial and operational scenario models to assess implications of various network strategies, concepts, or investment options.
  • Undertake appropriate sensitivity testing and enable proposals to be approved and used as inputs for capital planning and business case development.
  • Use optimisation techniques and applications to solve complex logistics problems such as those related to routing, facility location, and inventory allocation.
  • Source operational, volume and cost data from specialist teams as required and test assumptions as a key input into the design of the models (e.g. Technology costs, People costs)
  • Work with the Data and Insights team to develop a robust and automated process for Hub/ PDC and DC site level volume modelling considering and model layering appropriate to ensure accuracy for each site.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on network costs and financial performance to senior network management and other stakeholders as required.
  • Partner with operations, finance, procurement, and network planning teams to understand cost structures, challenge assumptions, and align on cost targets.
  • Support and promote a continuous improvement mindset across the Strategy and Planning team that drives improvements in scenario analysis and contributes to broader improvements in network operations

Essential Experience:

  • Holds advanced qualifications in Mathematics, Data Analysis, and Modelling, or a degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or Operations Research, with significant expertise in running detailed network optimisation mathematical models.
  • Extensive background in finance, operations research, and modelling roles, with a focus on cost estimating, cost-to-serve analysis, activity-based costing, and cost reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated experience in logistics network optimisation, supply chain planning, and operational roles.
  • Proven expertise in developing financial and operational cost models to support network optimisation tools and decision-making processes.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong understanding of supply chain and logistics principles, including cost dynamics in first and last mile operations and how these are influenced by volume, distance, and handling.
  • Well-versed in industry best practices, emerging technologies, and modelling trends.
  • Proficient in data analysis using tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, R, and specialised cost modelling software.
  • Skilled in network modelling platforms including Coupa (formerly Llamasoft SC Modeller / IBM LogicNet+), GAINS, Logility, and AnyLogic, with familiarity in GIS tools for spatial analysis, route optimisation, and facility location planning.

Additional Requirements:

  • In addition to the responsibilities listed above the post holder may be required to perform other duties assigned by the Senior Management Team from time-to-time. Subject to adequate experience and/or training.
  • To participate in the annual performance appraisal process and objective scheme.
