About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our team at Braintrust. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of our backend systems, driving innovation, and collaborating closely with our team of experts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the backend engineering team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Drive the development and implementation of best practices, coding standards, and architectural principles to ensure consistency and excellence across our backend systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement robust, efficient, and maintainable solutions that meet current and future business needs.
  • Conduct regular code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable code and provide feedback to team members.
  • Mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Optimize existing backend systems for performance, scalability, and efficiency, and implement and advocate for best practices in scaling backend infrastructure.
  • Communicate technical concepts and decisions to both technical and non-technical team members, ensuring effective collaboration and understanding.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities for innovation and research to enhance our backend systems.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10 years minimum of experience in backend engineering, with a proven track record of designing and implementing complex systems.
  • Expertise in backend technologies such as Python, Java, etc.
  • Strong focus on AWS (e.g. lambdas, step functions, RDS) required & experience with Databricks.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
  • Experience building data lakes & data warehouses.
  • Experience Working With a Business Operational/financial Tool Required.
  • Experience as a lead engineer in a start-up environment is highly desired.
  • Leadership experience, including mentoring, coaching, and guiding engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
