About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our team at Braintrust. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our web-based application.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Provide guidance and leadership to the backend engineering team, driving the development and implementation of best practices, coding standards, and architectural principles.
  • System Design: Architect scalable and high-performance backend systems that meet current and future business needs, collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and implement robust, efficient, and maintainable solutions.
  • Code Reviews: Conduct regular code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable code, and mentor and coach team members to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Infrastructure Optimization: Optimize existing backend systems for performance, scalability, and efficiency, and implement and advocate for best practices in scaling backend infrastructure.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver optimal solutions, and communicate technical concepts and decisions to both technical and non-technical team members.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: 10 years minimum of experience in backend engineering, with a proven track record of designing and implementing complex systems.
  • Skills: Expertise in backend technologies such as Python, Java, etc, strong focus on AWS (e.g. lambdas, step functions, RDS) required & experience with Databricks, experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), experience building data lakes & data warehouses, and experience working with a business operational/financial tool.
  • Leadership Experience: Experience as a lead engineer in a start-up environment is highly desired, and leadership experience, including mentoring, coaching, and guiding engineering teams.
