As a key member of the Department for Business and Trade, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of professionals to achieve strategic objectives. This will involve ensuring that colleagues and stakeholders have a clear understanding of objectives, activities, and timeframes. The ideal candidate will be able to take into account different individual needs, views, and ideas, championing inclusion and equality of opportunity for all. They will also consider the impacts of their own and the team's activities on stakeholders and end users, role-modeling commitment and satisfaction with the role. Effective conflict management, misconduct, and non-inclusive behavior will be essential skills for this position.

Seeing the Big Picture

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the strategic drivers for the Estates Logistics area of work. They will be able to align activities to contribute to wider organisational priorities, remaining alert to emerging issues and trends that might impact the work area. The ideal candidate will seek out and share experiences to develop knowledge of the team's business area, understanding how the strategies and activities of the team create value and meet the diverse needs of all stakeholders.

Making Effective Decisions

The Head of Estates Logistics will be responsible for making informed decisions that take into account a range of relevant, credible information from internal and external sources. They will be able to empower others to make decisions where appropriate, displaying confidence when making difficult decisions, even if they prove to be unpopular. The successful candidate will consult with others to ensure the potential impacts on end users have been considered, presenting strong recommendations in a timely manner.

Changing and Improving

The successful candidate will work with others to identify areas for improvement and simplify processes to use fewer resources. They will use technology where possible to increase efficiency, encouraging ideas for change from a wide range of sources. The ideal candidate will clearly explain the reasons for change to colleagues and how to implement them, supporting individuals with different needs to adapt to change. They will create an environment where colleagues know that they can challenge decisions and issues safely, taking managed risks by fully considering the varied impacts changes could have on the diverse range of end users.
