Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Maintain Documentation: Create, maintain, and improve software documentation to ensure that it is accurate, comprehensive, and easy to use.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Work closely with engineering team members to help them create effective documentation contributions and ensure that documentation is integrated into the development process.
  • Influence Product Development: As an expert user of our product, you will provide valuable insights and opinions on its function and design, influencing the development of the product.
  • Engage with User Communities: Engage with user communities to ensure that our documentation meets their needs and expectations.
  • Standardize Documentation: Help standardize the structure, presentation, style, and language of content across products.
  • Advance Documentation Practices: Collaborate with documentation peers to advance the state of the art in documentation at Canonical.
  • Challenge and Advance Documentation Understanding: Challenge and advance documentation understanding and best-practice, as part of a disciplinary team.
Requirements
  • Technical Writing Skills: Possess excellent technical writing skills, with a programmer's mindset or a programmer with a record of producing excellent documentation.
  • Community Engagement: Have a record of community engagement in open-source software, documentation, research, or other disciplines.
  • Technical Curiosity: Demonstrate technical curiosity and fascination with software technology and its challenges.
  • Documentation Skills: Possess demonstrable documentation skills, insight, and enthusiasm.
  • Software Development Context: Have experience of software development contexts, including Linux, working on the command line, application deployment, system operations, and infrastructure management, Git, and documentation markup languages.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Education: Hold a BSc/BA degree or equivalent.
  • Travel: Be able to travel twice a year for up to two weeks for events.
