About the Role

The Field MEAL and Research Officer will be responsible for leading field-level data collection, supporting ongoing monitoring and evaluation activities, and contributing to research efforts that inform program design and implementation. The role will involve close collaboration with program staff, implementing partners, local stakeholders, and the MEAL and Research Manager. The successful candidate will ensure that data gathered from the field is accurate, timely, and meaningful, and that it directly informs both strategic decision-making and day-to-day program delivery. 

What you'll be doing
Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) 

  • Coordinate and implement field-level M&E activities in line with the project's MEAL framework. 
  • Collect qualitative and quantitative data (surveys, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, observation, etc.) across program locations. 
  • Ensure high data quality through regular verification, cleaning, and documentation processes. 
  • Feed data into program dashboards and contribute to reporting processes, including donor reporting. 

Research 

  • Support the design and delivery of research initiatives, including assessments and thematic studies. 
  • Assist in tool development and field testing of research instruments. 
  • Engage community members and local stakeholders to ensure inclusive and ethical research practices. 

Accountability 

  • Implement accountability mechanisms, such as community feedback tools and complaints handling systems. 
  • Document and escalate community feedback, concerns, or suggestions to the relevant ARK teams for timely response. 

Learning & Adaptation 

  • Participate in reflection and learning sessions with field teams to capture lessons learned and inform adaptive programming. 
  • Contribute to knowledge products, case studies, and success stories that highlight impact. 

Coordination & Collaboration 

  • Work closely with the Program Manager and other program staff, and local implementing partners to integrate MEAL and research across activities.   

Essential:  

  • Knowledge of MEAL Frameworks: Knowledge of logical frameworks (log frames), Theory of Change (ToC), indicators, and M&E plans. 
  • Data Collection & Analysis: Knowledge of tools: KoboToolbox, CommCare Methods: Baseline surveys, KAP studies, FGDs, KIIs.
  • Data Analysis Tools: Excel (advanced), SPSS, STATA, R, or Power BI.
  • Report Writing: Ability to synthesise data into meaningful insights and reports in English and Arabic.
  • Learning & Adaptation: Ability to facilitate learning reviews and use evidence to inform program improvements.
  • Proficiency in both Arabic and English.

Desirable: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, including but not limited to Social Sciences and Statistics.
  • Experience in NGO/INGO or humanitarian/development sector is highly valued. 
  • Demonstrated experience in project cycle management, especially monitoring and evaluation planning and implementation.
