Database Administrator Job Description

At Amazon, we're looking for a skilled Database Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you'll be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our database systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaboration and Communication: Effective communication and strong collaboration skills are essential for this role. You'll work closely with other engineers to deploy new databases and operationally support our software.
  • Database Management: Experience with managing production database servers is a must. You'll be responsible for ensuring the performance, security, and scalability of our databases.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are required to identify and resolve database-related issues.
  • Quantifiable Success: We're looking for someone with a proven track record of success as a DBA. You'll be expected to deliver measurable results and contribute to the growth of our database systems.
  • Programming Languages: Knowledge of one or more programming languages, such as Python, is a plus. You'll be working with our engineering team to develop and maintain our database systems.
  • Learning and Innovation: We're passionate about learning and using new technologies. You'll have the opportunity to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in database systems and contribute to the innovation of our team.

A typical day on our team involves collaborating with other engineers to deploy new databases, operationally supporting our software, and seeking out new approaches to automate fixes for operational issues.
