Job Summary

The Officer, Child Protection will support implementation of child protection activities related to a specific project, initiative, or site of implementation.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Program Planning


Work closely with child protection leadership team, staff team, local partners, and community stakeholders, as relevant, to plan program interventions
Coordinate with government focal points, local partners, and child protection networks, as appropriate
Participate and support in preparing and implementation of needs assessments
Support the development of program strategy, planning documents and proposals
Assist in designing and developing child protection programs and activities within the program strategy
Assist in the development of tools and guidelines for program implementation
Work closely with child protection staff, including partners to identify child protection issues and inform evidence-based programming.


Capacity Building and Implementation


Lead implementation of relevant child protection program activities 
Ensure effective community participation throughout implementation
Lead implementation of specific approaches, as relevant
Assist in designing child protection capacity-building plans for staff and partners
Deliver child protection coaching, mentoring and monitoring sessions, training, and briefings with staff and partners
Collaborate with other departments including program, finance, logistics and procurement to align activities with the overall objectives of the child protection program
Contribute to the development/revision of child protection materials
Circulate child protection materials and other relevant information with staff and partners
Support community-based child protection committees and other volunteers engaged for child protection activities, where relevant.


Human Resources Support


Support recruitment and oversight of child protection staff, where relevant
Train and coach staff 
Support strategies for child protection staff, foster team building, and support principles of self-care.


Monitoring and Reporting


Seek and analyse community feedback and adapt activities accordingly  
Monitor and document prevention and risk mitigation program activities  
Contribute to internal and external reports. 


Coordination, Advocacy and Representation


Coordinate regularly with the child protection leadership and participate broader team meetings 
Advocate for children's rights and promote awareness of child protection issues within the community.
Participate in internal and external coordination meetings, promoting child protection principles at all times


Security and Conduct


Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies 
Foster a safe and supportive working environment for all child protection staff and partners.
Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the program and organization, notably through adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics, including compliance with anti-harassment, safeguarding and PSEA policies.

Minimum Requirements

 


Typically, a Bachelor’s degree in related field e.g. psychology, social work, education. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Typically, 3+ years of experience in child protection related area, ideally in humanitarian programs
Demonstrated commitment to core principles of child protection programming including the best interest of the child, child centered and family focused services, and confidentiality
Familiarity with child development
Familiarity with government, NGO and CBO service providers
Familiarity with relevant child protection prevention and response standards, approaches, and tools
Experience in staff capacity building
Training and facilitation experience including experience in the development of training materials
Strong written and oral communication skills in English and other local language as required
Good interpersonal and advocacy skills
Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team, in a multicultural environment, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and ensure high-quality work.
Computer literacy with demonstrated experience in utilization of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
